Honey-Citrus Vinaigrette

Have you ever looked at the ingredient list for something and just known in the pit of your soul that your taste buds would love it?? That’s how I feel about this dressing.

It’s fabulous on all kinds of things, especially salads involving chicken and avocado. I even used the leftovers, adding a bit more cumin and an extra garlic clove or two, to marinate some chicken breasts and they were awesome on the grill. Enjoy!

Sing it with me: “These are a few of my favorite things…”
Oranges, Lime, garlic, honey, onio
n, cumin, salt and pepper.

Try it on a bed of cold romaine, with bites of creamy avocado, juicy mango, pretty red onion and slices of Spicy Honey Chicken

Questions & Reviews

  1. Weird question. I have orange juice but not an orange. Do you think that would work as a substitute?

  2. I have made Spicy Honey Chicken, but never had the right ingredients to make the salad til now. That was AMAZING! I’m planning on making it next week, but I was wondering how long the vinaigrette keeps?

  3. I made this tonight, I’m 7 wks pregnant and haven’t been able to keep much down. I spiced it up just a bit with a little splash of zesty italian & a little more cumin and garlic.. I also made the spicy honey chicken and I gotta say this is one of the best recipes I’ve ever made! It was delicious, light, and definitely not a pair I would’ve thought of. I enjoyed this so much!! Especially this dressing, it’s amazing. I love a lot of salad dressings but this one is a fav! I have now officially become a fan of this blog..and I want you guys to know these are some amazing dishes, and they make cooking in my household a lot more fun! I’m a mom of 3 kids, 4th one on the way. I gotta have delicious dinners that appeal to everyone, and the time to make them. Thats why I love your blog!!!

  4. I’ve been trying to make some different citrus vinaigrettes and they all seem to turn out runny. Any ideas on what I may be doing wrong ? I would like them just a bit thicker like the store bought vinaigrettes. Any ideas would be so appreciated. Thanks

  5. This is a delicious salad dressing.I totally agree with how nicely it compliments avocado…so good. However..there were a couple things I would change. One…it’s a bit on the watery side. Maybe increase the honey a little…it’s not overly sweet and could take a little more to thicken it. The other thing, the cumin flavor is very strong. If you’re not a fan, or just don’t want an overpowering cumin flavor I would maybe cut it back a little. I may do a 1/2 t. next time.

  6. I made this for dinner tonight and it was so good! It turned out pretty sweet, but that was probably because the orange was insanely sweet. I added half a tablespoon on rice vinegar and it was perfect.
    Thanks for the great recipe!

    1. There just needs to be an acid to combine with oil, and in this case we’re using citrus juice.

  7. Yum! This dressing looks delicious! I have made the Spicy Honey chicken several times and am in love with it! I’ve never used it for the salad thought, usually added some roasted potatoes and veggies with it. Tonight I am going to make this salad dressing and the recipe for the salad! We are having unseasonably high temps right now (for Iowa!) and a fresh salad sounds delicious!

  8. I love salads! This dressing is my go to dressing, from the first time I tried it I was hooked! It’s so fast and easy I can’t stop making it.

  9. Ha– sorry about that! I can see it perfectly on my desktop but when I was looking it up on my Iphone the garlic font was ridiculously tiny! I didn’t even see it there!

  10. I love this dressing and I love your dressing carafe. Do you happen to remember where you got it? Thanks!

    1. The one in the very first thumbnail photo is from Walmart, like $3! The one in the photo at the end is from Michael’s Craft store, and I think it was only about a buck more!

  11. I know this recipe is from a long time ago, but I’m making the whole delicious salad tonight after seeing it posted on the Southern Institute blog via Sew Much Ado. I just wanted to say that everything about it is so fantastic. I haven’t even finished the chicken yet, and I want to drink the dressing. I had yummy blood oranges on hand, so the juice came out the most amazing plum-magenta color–they’re a bit sweeter than normal oranges, so I decreased the honey just a bit and added some extra lime juice. SO YUM! Thank you for the time you put into making my dinners better! 🙂

  12. Jessica, you bet. Any type of vegetable oil is fine, so canola would work great.

  13. Question…Could you use a type of oil other than vegetable? I tried it with olive oil (because I don’t keep vegetable on hand) but it didn’t turn out. Do you think I could use canola?

  14. Okay, I tried this dressing last week, and let me just say it was so good I could have drank it straight from the bowl. No, seriously.

  15. I’m trying this one with that honey chicken next week. I’ll let you know how it turns out!

  16. Hey, Kate, I actually just finished taking pics of a yummy vegetarian meal! I’m not planning on posting it for a couple of months, but email me ([email protected]) and I’ll send it to you if you want! Oh, and nice name…way to copy! 😉

  17. Hi girls! I am here to admit that I check out your blog every once in a while. I’m also here to make an outlandish request. Some vegetarian recipes! My crazy husband became veg about a year and a half ago. Consequently I stopped cooking. I’m trying to get back into it and I need easy, quick and filling meal ideas. HELP ME and I’ll love you forever. He’ll eat a little fish every once in a while, and he’s okay with a little dairy but not a whole dish centered on cheese. (Seriously what’s wrong with this guy? Ugh.) Okay I’ve hijacked your comments section. Love your blog. And, oh, it’s prettykatemachine from bbc. Later!

  18. ooh Lisa, if you think *this* is a party- you’ve gotta see what’s comin’ next week!

  19. I keep coming here and thinking: ok, I HAVE to try that one, and that one, and that one. Seriously guys. Do you ever run out of awesome recipes??? This is truly an awesome blog. Not to mention the witty and fun writers. This is just a party!

  20. Yes, Jana, this very day I had a total fantasy that I had the ice cream attachment for my Kitchenaid. AND that I had the Cuisinart ice cream maker that my parents have. And I’d probably keep my little electric one, too, because, hey! You can never have too many ice cream makers.

  21. I’d love for you to e-mail me one! And, nope you didn’t guilt me into it, I promise! I saw that button in your siggy before and I’ve been meaning to ask you for one. I’d love to link to you.

  22. Haha, hey rubyjade- did I guilt you into commenting?! I’ll take it 😉

That’s just a little jpg I hyperlinked in my bbc sig. If you want one for your blog, I’ll email it to ya!

  23. This is a fantastic site.

I noticed you have a button on bbc. Do you have one we stalkers could put on our blogs?
