I had a total disaster while making something I had planned for today. You don’t think Kate and I have disasters? Oh, we do. You’re going to hear about mine around Christmas time (when I post the blue food that magically turned green when I cooked it against everything I tried to prevent it! ) So I realized I was going to have to scrap it and come up with something else and I was pounding my brain trying to …

Happy 4th of July week! I seriously cannot believe that it is almost July–not only does it mean lots of hot weather, but it also means food, friends, and lots of fun as we approach probably the biggest summer food holiday! We know that most of you have lots of fun things planned and don’t want to spend a ton of time slaving in a hot kitchen, so we’re planning some fun food and treats this week that are festive …

I’d like to tell you about my new best friend. Her name is Gisela. She likes Harry Potter, U2, and hot teen vampires. Okay that’s really about all I know. And I may or may not have learned it from reading her blog profile. There’s also a good chance she thinks I’m psycho for sending her half of my broken heart BFF necklace seeing as we’ve never actually met. Or spoken. Or emailed. Or even twittered (gasp!) However, dear Gisela …

So we’re pretty much cereal-for-breakfast kind of people with the occasional “something else” thrown in for fun now and then. I’m really trying to do more “something elses,” especially little treats that can double as things I can throw into lunches and snack on while watching So You Think You Can Dance without feeling like I’m violating some kind of rules on breakfast foods. These muffins are not loaded with whole wheat flour and flax seed like a proper morning …

You should know by now that Kate and I are big pizza fans. Actually, we’re fans of most everything in the white-starchy-carb family and also the hot gooey cheese family. So naturally, pizza finds its way to our hearts. You should also know by now that I’m kind of obsessed with the grill and I’ll try to find a way to cook just about anything on it. Grilled pizza is waaaay up high on my list of favorite summer foods. …

So remember on Monday when I was complaining about how hot it is here and how I was going to be posting cool, no-cook recipes? Well, when that didn’t work for me, I decided to fight fire with fire. And so we’re getting Jambalaya. Before I moved here, I knew that like Red Beans and Rice, Jambalaya was standard Louisiana fare, but I’d never had it. And like most Cajun and Creole comfort foods, it somehow manages to use inexpensive, …

People often ask me where I learned to cook. I really had to think about it at first since I can’t really pinpoint an exact point in my life where I became interested in all things culinary. I didn’t take a class, or watch a show, or read a book. I just…cooked. I always have. But as I reflect on my life and my past and all of the things that have made me into the person that I am, …

So summer has officially hit in Louisiana. By 8:30 in the morning, I’m already sweating (or am covered in condensation…I’m not actually sure which). Come 4:30 in the afternoon and I’m contemplating the quickest way to end my misery. Since that’s also about the time I start getting ready for dinner, this means that I’m now whipping out every cool, quick, and easy recipe in my arsenal. Now…one area where Sara and I are very different is that she actually …
