June 2010

Hello everyone!  We have had such a busy week here at OBB.  In fact, we have so much going on that we’ll probably sneak in an extra post this week to fit it all in.  First of all, thank you all so much for the well-wishes you sent my way.  We welcomed boy #3 into our house this past Friday and I’ve been doing nothing but stare at those adorable little toesies ever since.  If you’ve emailed or commented and …

If you’re not linked up with us on Facebook, you may not have heard all the crazy, exciting goings-on with Sara and I right now! First and foremost, Sara had her baby on Friday–a healthy, ADORABLE, chubby and round baby boy. They’re both doing great. The other exciting thing that’s going on with us right now is that we were invited to NYC to attend an event with Kelly Ripa and the people from Serendipity 3 to raise awareness for …

If you’re anything like me, you have your flavors. You know what I’m talking about; the ones you spend time thinking about changing, just to be adventurous and try something new, only to panic at the last minute and go with your fall-back. It’s the reason that I’ve been ordering the teriyaki chicken burger at Red Robin for the last twenty-something years of my life and why when placed in a stressful situation, I often burst out with panicked screams …

So I kind of recently came into the possession of 40 pounds of tomatoes. Long story. Don’t ask. Blonde–ish moment. Note to self: for future reference, 40 pounds is a LOT of tomatoes. So if any of you are fans of Modern Family, you probably know about Phil and Claire’s ongoing silent feud about the broken stair, right? And the fact that it never gets fixed? Well, the “broken stair” in my house is the hole in our deck that used to contain a dead tree until my husband cut the tree down, so it was a hole full of spiky dead tree branches. This afternoon, I went out on the deck with …

As Kate mentioned in her Caramel Cake post, this week as an ode to Father’s Day, we’re sharing signature recipes from our own fathers!  Now looking at the picture to the right that might seem strange, but stick with me here. Growing up I had no idea what a “crepe” was.  But what I did know was “Thin Cakes”.  They were my Dad’s most famous dish and everyone in our family looked forward to thin cake Saturdays when he would …

Sara and I have dabbled in posts about our dads before (like here, here, and here), but, in light of Father’s Day being this coming Sunday, we thought we’d dedicate a whole week to recipes that remind us of our dads. Oh, by the way, Dad, happy Father’s Day! I’m a little behind on my shopping… It seems like no matter what other kinds of cake my dad may like, if it’s a birthday or any kind of special celebration …
