Holiday Gifts from the Kitchen

You know how before your kids are in school, you think, “Oh, when my kids go to school, I’ll have all sorts of free time to do whatever I want to do!” That, my friends, is a parenting fallacy (this is Kate, by the way, even if the post says it was by Sara). Yes, when my kids were itty bitty, I got a lot less sleep (and also once had a meltdown because all I wanted was my own …

photo by The TomKat Studio A lot of you have been requesting labels for our Tin Can Treats, and I’m so excited to share them today!  Mostly because they’re so stinking cute.  And that’s because I didn’t make them!  The fabulous Kim, from The TomKat Studio whipped these up for us.  Aren’t they fabulous?  If you’ve never been to Kim’s blog before, you must head over there and poke around.  But make sure you have some time because you will …

Chocolate Peppermint Sandwich Cookies

So, strangely enough one of the cookies I make the most at home isn’t postedhere on the blog.  I’m sure many of you are familiar with the beloved “Homemade Oreos” most often made with cake mix cookies (and ohhh my gosh I didn’t even remember we had that link up.  Talk about lost old post!  It was written in June of 2008, when our blog was a whopping 3 months old and it’s totally old school, I love it)  and …

Breakfast Potatoes

You know those people who say they’re not big breakfast eaters? Or worse…they don’t like breakfast foods (gasp!)? Yeah, I’m not one of those people. I love breakfast and breakfast food. If I could pick one meal to eat out with friends, it would be breakfast/brunch. And my favorite favorite breakfast food? Potatoes. Hash browns. Whatever you want to call them, I will go out of my way to make sure I have them when I’m ordering breakfast or for …

Sweet Tortilla Snowflakes

So you know we’re working on another book, right?  We’ve actually been working on it all year, but now it’s getting down to the wire and we’re working tirelessly to get it turned in on time so it can be done in time for Santa to bring it to you next Christmas.  It’s hard to explain what life is like at this point in the process, but let’s just say it’s a little (okay a lot) insane.  However, I refuse …

Creamy Strawberry Jello Pie

So before I left for my vacation over Thanksgiving, I did something stupid. Reeeeeally stupid. I made this recipe (that wasn’t stupid, that was good planning with lots of forethought) and took pictures, but I wasn’t happy with how the final pics (ummmmm…I’ve discovered that Jello is really hard to photograph). So I unloaded my SD card onto my computer, deleted all the pictures on the card so it would be nice and empty for my trip, and then figured …

Peppermint Bark Rice Krispie Treats

Peppermint.  Chocolate.  Rice Krispie Treats.  What’s not to love here?  These are one of my all-time favorite holiday treats because they’re kind of fancy, yet so super easy to make and everyone loves them.  I first posted this recipe back in 2011 and it was long overdue for a little facelift. Back when I originally posted this, I wrote the recipe with peppermint marshmallows, but I actually like them better with regular white marshmallows and peppermint extract.  The color and …
