Watermelon Agua Fresca

Watermelon Agua Fresca from Our Best BitesIf you’ve never had an agua fresca, basically, it’s water flavored with fresh fruit, sometimes some herbs, and sweetened with a little sugar, simple syrup, honey, agave, etc. to taste. This Watermelon Augua Fresca is super light and refreshing. It makes a great addition to a summer barbecue, ladies lunch, or backyard reception.

Ingredient Notes

  • Sweeteners – You’ll notice there are several options for sweeteners. I prefer a simple syrup, which is just equal parts water and sugar boiled together and then cooled. For this particular recipe, I like to toss a handful of mint leaves into the boiling syrup, then strain the syrup before using. The mint provides a subtle depth to an otherwise pretty straightforward flavor profile.

How to Make Watermelon Agua Fresca

I’m using 4 generous cups of cubed watermelon (seeded, if you’re not using a seedless watermelon), water, the juice of a few limes, and simple syrup.

FAQs

  • Can I make this ahead of time? In general, anything made with lime juice is going to be at its best within a few hours of making it. Feel free to cut up your watermelon and get your simple syrup ready up to a day ahead of time, if desired. This drink comes together really fast when you’re ready to serve!
