Brand New Site–Come Take a Peek!

CATEGORIES: General News

If you’ve been here on OBB in the last couple of days, you’ve probably noticed that we got a little makeover. Our amazing designer Susie (who did our first major site and logo re-design in 2011, plus our shop logo and labels) has been working tirelessly over that last little while to help us make our site more functional, organized, intuitive, and, of course, really cute. Now that the site’s been live for a couple of days, we think we’ve worked out most of the kinks and want to show you guys around a little bit!

If you’re visiting on a mobile device (particularly a phone), you’ve probably noticed that we’ve got a much more custom look that we’re really excited about.

That said, most of the good stuff is on the desktop version, so if you haven’t had a chance to hop onto a computer (or maybe a larger tablet) and take a look around, we hope you will so you can see all the fun things we have!

We wanted the site to be very accessible visually, so you’ll see a photo of our most recent posts along with an icon telling you what category it falls into. That way, you can immediately have a pretty good idea whether or not that might be something you’re interested in.

We’ve also improved our search function. Basically, our previous search tool was useless and it was easier to go to google and search “Our Best Bites ______” than to actually find something within our site. But now? You search for ribs? You get ribs.

Pretty nifty, right??

We’re so excited to be launching a brand-new newsletter soon; it won’t just be whatever posts to the site that day, it will be a real, actual newsletter that you’ll (hopefully!) want to read! You can sign up now or shortly when we launch the new newsletter–either way, we’ll be so happy to have you!

We’ve added a navigation bar that we hope will make it easier to find your way around OBB! I’m highlighting a few of our favorite features today, but if you feel the urge, feel free to push all the buttons!

We’ve also revamped our recipe index to make it easier to search for exactly what you’re looking for! Categories, 30-minute meals, cooking style, however you want to browse, we’ve got you covered.

untitled-5VIDEOSOne of the things we’re REALLY excited about is our new video section! We’ve got some short foodie videos and tutorials that we’re going to be sharing soon through social media, but you can see them here first! We also have all our Fit Club videos and some some crafts–go check them all out!

untitled-6FIT CLUBSpeaking of Fit Club, it has it’s own dedicated, easy-to-navigate section now.

untitled-10FAVORITESOne of the things we’re MOST excited about is the Favorite Things section. We’ve done so many Favorites posts, but finally we can have so much of it in one place (plus we’re planning on adding more–photography, music, all sorts of stuff.) When you click on the picture, it will direct you to the shop where the item is sold.

untitled-11So go poke around and try everything out! If you run into any glitchy issues, please feel free to shoot us an email at and we’ll try and get them taken care of ASAP! We hope you enjoy it!

  1. I really love what you guys have done with the site! Super easy to navigate and I really love the layout. And it’s cute! So, bonus! Strong work. I’m super excited that the search option will work more efficiently. And Sara’s mani in the Dirty DC video makes me want to run to the nail salon really fast. Love that color!

    1. Haha, thanks! I just got my nails done again and I regret not doing that same color again. It’s the perfect bright coral for summer. I think it was called Orange Smoothie!

  2. I am feeling stalkerish with all these comments, but the grilled doughnut berry shortcakes has the cauliflower cream sauce video on it. Just so you know.

  3. Excellent job girls! The site looks fantastic!!!! And kudos to Susie, I love the shop’s logo and labels, and the site looks fabulous.

  4. I just love it! I love the colors, it is so fun looking! I love that it is easy to navigate. I do love your recipies! You are my favorite bloggers! Oh, and I love your pictures in the corner. You two are just too cute!

  5. I am LOVING the new site!!! I just watched every video and they are soooo cute! I was thinking they were narrated videos when I clicked on the first one, but when I saw they were the happy music/high overview ones, I had to watch them all (although had they been narrated, I still would’ve watched them all ;-). That music is so happy! Love the new site and y’all are definitely my favorite blog!

  6. I am very happy to see the Sara or Kate label on the mobile version! Before I could see it on the computer, but on the phone I had no idea which of you was posting.

  7. Finally made it to the desktop after looking at the new site all week on my phone and it really is gorgeous and so much fun to click around. So great to see my all-time favorite recipes with the photos too! Some of the recipe indexes might be in alphabetical order backwards but maybe that’s on purpose? Also wanted to find my new favorite southwest grill salad but didn’t show up in the grill section … no big deal, went back to the home page and clicked through since I knew it was fairly recent … so I’m glad there are various ways to find recipes. You two will forever be my go-to favorites!! Thanks for all your hard work in sharing your amazing talents!!

  8. I love that the search function now… functions! That was probably the one frustrating thing on the old site. And the new recipe organization is pretty awesome, too. Lovely site, ladies!

  9. I think the new site looks awesome! Great job on really updating the feel of the site.

Now, I don’t know if I’m missing something, but the new recipe index has been a little frustrating to use. The categories are wonderful and very similar to the old site. One huge difference: no sub-categories! If I click on desserts, I have 43 pages of desserts to filter through with only 8 recipes per page and no way to sort them. They are listed in chronological order with the most recent posts first. The recipes used to be separated into sub-categories like Ice Cream or Cookies and Bars. I desperately miss that! Yes the search works much better now, but if I search “ice cream” I get 66 pages to filter through with a Basil Buttermilk Ranch Dressing on page 3. These recipes aren’t in alphabetical order and I can’t tell if they’re in chronological order either.

I don’t know if you’re able to, but I would love to see the sub-categories return and maybe more page function, like being able to view more to a page or being able to jump ahead 6 pages. Right now you can only click on the first page, the last page and then three pages in between. I gain a lot of inspiration of what to make simply by browsing. I know I want to make some cookies, but I haven’t decided what kind yet. The old recipe index showed me all of your cookies in one spot. If I have to resign myself to only 8 recipes per page, I’m never going to make it to page 40 or 25 for that matter.

Food for thought. Overall, a beautiful, exciting update to the site. I lot definitely went in trying to make it a better experience for your readers, that is apparent. I just think that sometimes you don’t realize that something isn’t going to work well until people start using it. Unless of course, I’m the only one who hasn’t figured out how to work the new site. Well, me and my sister and mother-in-law.

    1. Hi Brittany! Thanks for your great feedback, we hadn’t noticed those issues yet so we’re glad you let us know. We’ve changed the recipe index so it now divides into subcategories. Go take a look and let us know what you think!

      1. Awesome! Thank you, thank you, thank you! That is exactly what the recipe index needed. All the sub categories are back and we’ve got 30 recipes to a page! Paired with the new, larger picture sizes, it’s a winner. I’m glad it was a fairly easy fix. Thanks so much for hearing me and making it happen. You guys are seriously awesome!
