So last week, I shared some of my big-ticket wish list items, the things I just can’t quite bring myself to buy but that I would love to have.
Well.
This week, I’m sharing the 5 things that I’ve fallen in love with in the last week. And the good news? They’re not $500 blenders. One of them is even free! Granted, movies aren’t particularly wallet-friendly, especially when you throw paying a babysitter into the mix, but the movies I’m excited about this week are both so good that they’re definitely worth it!
1. Interstellar.
Last weekend was the weekend of movies for our family. Before we had kids, my husband and I saw movies all.the.time. Since reproducing (and the more kids we have), we see fewer and fewer movies. Except for last weekend, apparently, when we saw two.
On Friday night, we got a babysitter and went to see Interstellar. I had zero hopes or expectations–in fact, when our babysitter asked what we were going to see, I said, “The Space Movie!” Space travel movies are generally not my genre of choice, and after a steady diet of animated features for the past almost-10 years, movies that are longer than 90 minutes are also generally not my first choice.
Well, I was wrong on every level. It blew me away. I sat on the edge of my seat, I had a good cathartic cry (or, like, 10…), and I never once felt like falling asleep. It was seriously the best movie I’ve seen in I can’t remember how long.
2. Big Hero 6.
The next day, we took our kids to see Big Hero 6. This was the first time we’ve taken 2-year-old Will to a movie since Oz the Great and Powerful when he was 9 months old and I paced up and down the steps of the theater for the second half of the movie. We all loved it. The animation was fantastic, the story was funny and touching, and Will not only sat for the whole thing, but he also left the movie saying, “Hairy baby!”, which made the entire experience worth it. Definitely a fun movie for the whole family.
3. Envy Apples.
Envy apples are my favorite, but they’re rarely in season. Except for now! For the next few weeks, I’m stashing up on these crispy, sweet (but not too sweet), juicy apples that don’t brown when you cut them. Honeycrisps, move on over…
4. TrashHand Font.
I love this font–bold, easy-to-read, has a hand-written look. Plus, it’s free! Can’t beat that, right??
5. Mad Love Loafers.
If you think Toms are cute (or kind of cute), but you’re not prepared to pay high prices for mediocre shoes (even if they do go to a good cause), these shoes are a good compromise (they also filled the void when my Toms mysteriously disappeared…I’m pretty sure my husband was behind it.) Comfy, casual, great for fall, and not bank-breaking. Target, I can’t live without you.
So those are the little things I’m excited about this week! What about you guys?
Never heard of envy apples. I will have to try and find some. Also a big fan of big hero 6.
We took the kids to Big Hero 6, and at the VERY end, I finally got the title. . . because I’m bright like that. Then we got to go spend today with family, and it was really nice to see my aunt again (she has stage 4 cancer, and is just doing pain management at this point). I am looking forward to Thanksgiving week, my kids don’t have school and I think we all need a break. Also, Black Friday is my favorite holiday, so I’m excited for that. I think I’ll track down the Envy apples and see if I can share some of the cookie butter dip that was posted earlier with some friends that might need some girl time 🙂
I’m excited about the weekend- and the Temple dedication out here in AZ! I would usually follow your recommendations without hesitation, but I’m still a little nervous about Interstellar…we’ll see if I can muster up the courage to go see it. At least for the popcorn…
Planning to see Big Hero 6 this weekend. Excited to hear the good reviews.
I have never heard of Envy apples but now I will be on the lookout. We have been debating seeing big hero 6 but I was worried it would be over my kids heads. Maybe we will have to check it out!
I definitely want to see both those movies! Paying for a babysitter is so not fun, but it’s kind of necessary, right? 🙂
I’ve never heard of Envy apples. I’ll have to see if I can find some. I love a good apple!
I haven’t heard of envy apples, but it sounds like I need to find some.
I was so confused about why you did a Scoop post on Wednesday instead of Thursday this week. Turns out today is Thursday and you actually did it the normal way. Where did my Wednesday go?
Glad I’m not the only one, Ellie! Haha
I really shouldn’t post using my smart phone. Typos are all too frequent!
I hear ya on going to the movies pre-kids
. Our two close in age babies are teenagers. Ow though, & able to watch their younger brother but we rarely take advantage of the free babysitting. Is it just me or has the movues gotten really expensive? Love Envy apples.although they’ve been nudged out by Pink Ladies. Love this post!
Those shoes are cute!!! I’m going to have to make a target run this weekend…
(sigh) Cameos are my absolute favorite apples of all time, but they’re hard to find, too. Luckily we planted a baby Cameo tree this year so we should be up to our eyeballs in the delicious objects in another year or two. If the little tree doesn’t die. In the meantime, I’ll have to keep my eyes skinned for Envy.
So wrong yet so right is the Christmas candy dish mix from Hershey. It has kisses, miniatures and Reese’s peanut butter cups. Pretty much heaven in a bag. If this has been around for years I have been missing out!
I’m a huge fan of Ambrosia apples, but these Envy apples are grown in Lake Chelan, which is just 45 minutes away from where I live! I think it’s time to buy local. 🙂
So many good ideas today! I’ll have to keep my eyes open for envy apples. And those shoes are definitely adorable. Are Toms not all they’re cracked up to be in terms of quality and comfort?
They’d be okay if they were $20 or less. But both pairs that I’ve had offer little in terms of support and they tend to fall apart quickly. When I’m paying $60+ for shoes, I kind of expect more, you know?
I’m excited for the day when we can get out and see a movie – I have a 2 month old who wont take a bottle so I’m feeling a little stir crazy!
I’ve never seen envy apples but I’ll keep an eye out. I really want to take my kids to Big 6, I’ve heard great things, although I hear there are 3 deaths!
I didn’t know about Envy apples–I’ll definitely have to try them, thanks!
So glad to hear interstellar is good. I’m excited to go see it. I also got some new throw pillows for the holidays. I’m pretty sure they’re called throw pillows because my kids throw them all over the floor.
My oldest is dying to see Big Hero 6. I’m glad to hear your whole crew loved it! I was nervous about taking my 3 year old, but maybe it will keep her attention. =)
I know it is too early, but I am excited about Christmas scented candles coming out at Bath & Body Works and Yankee Candle – I think I could burn those year around…although, it would be a little weird to have a house smelling like Christmas in the heat of the summer…anyway…
Not really what you’re asking for, but what I’m excited about this week is a recipe. Your recipe. Specifically your BBQ Bacon Sliders recipe. Oh.My.Goodness. I made them on Tuesday and I can’t stop thinking about them, and how soon I can make them again, and all of the things I can feasibly put that blue cheese spread on. I must go wipe the drool now. Thank you.
Totally what we’re asking for!! It’s all the little things, right? There’s actually a recipe I’m REALLY excited about this week, but I’m waiting to share it in December…as a blog post, hahaha.
ANYWAY. It’s been WAY too long since I’ve made those sliders!!! Soooo good!!
We hardly went to movies before kids! But some of us, at least, went to two this week, too. We all went to Meet the Mormons last night, which was pretty cool. Saturday, I took the younger boys to Big Hero 6 for a birthday party, and I loved it! I know the others will like it too, but I’m not sure how to persuade my husband to buy tickets after his jaw dropped last night…
I am like you and have not been to a movie in, how long has it been now? Big Hero 6 is on our to do list though. I will have to try those envy apples. And those shoes! I need some:)
We saw Big Hero 6 and loved it too! I love when Disney does a great animated feature for boys. I saw envy apples at the store and had never heard of them. Now I know to try them! I was disappointed with the honey crisp ones I bought the same day. Who’d a thought that would ever happen!? Also, I got some of those slip ons from Target on clearance for $6! Awesome!
Ooh- I’ve been looking for shoes for my 14-year old for Christmas, and didn’t know about those Mad Love shoes. I really need to branch out when I’m at Target. Anyway, she will love those!
My daughter saw Interstellar and can’t stop talking about it. The younger kids and I saw Big Hero 6 and LOVED it!! I was so happy to see that those were the movies you loved, too. 🙂
I’ve seen envy apples at our store, but have such a love affair with Honey Crisp, I haven’t even considered them. Maybe it’s time.
I have never heard of envy apples. I must keep them in mind.
I love envy apples!!!!! But I still would have trouble passing by a honey crisp… Tough choices.
