Peachy Bacon Sandwich from Our Best Bites introYou’ll notice here at Our Best Bites, our recipes sway with the seasons.  We love using what’s fresh and in-season to take advantage of the best flavors.  In most places around the country, peaches are in full swing.  They’re extra sweet and super juicy this time of year and people are constantly emailing us asking for ideas to use them!  This unique sandwich is one perfect solution.  It’s like a twist on a classic BLT, offering fresh flavors and surprising contrasts.  Try it for a quick lunch for one, or whip them up in bulk with some fresh fruit and a side salad for a great summer dinner.

Peach Bacon Sandwich ingredients

Start by mixing up a quick tangy-spicy sauce.  Two ingredients is all it takes.  Miracle Whip adds a little tang, without needing extra ingredients like vinegar, and Sriracha brings the heat along with a little pepper flavor.  If you’re not too keen on spice, feel free to dial down the Sriracha to start and add more to taste until you reach your perfect heat level.

Tangy Sauce

Spread some sauce on 2 slices of toasted bread.  Pile on a bed of arugula, and a few pieces of crisp bacon.

Open Faced Peach Bacon Sandwiches

As you can see, this is building up similar to a BLT, but instead of tomatoes, we’re using sweet, juicy peaches.

Sliced Fresh Peaches

The peaches really pair well with the tangy sauce,

and the savory bacon balances the sweetness for a great flavor combination.

I love the textures in the sandwich, too.  Toasted bread adds a crunch, and the soft peaches with the crumbly bacon and smooth sauce in your mouth combine so well.

Questions & Reviews

  1. I was a bit nervous about this but committed to trying it, I’m so glad that I did! My husband called it “weirdly good” and loves it just as much as I do.
It doesn’t make a difference if you don’t like Miracle Whip, just use Mayo.
I didn’t have Argula so I just used iceberg lettuce, I wanted to try spinach with it but figured I may be pushing it with my son.

  2. This sounds pretty much delicious. I’m surprised about all the people who dislike this idea. Where’s your sense of adventure people?! Like I tell my children, “don’t knock it before you try it!”

  3. I can’t wait for late July/early August every year when the Utah peaches come on.
So I was able to try out this combination twice in the last week. Yummy! Super delicious. I had no arugula but romaine worked fine.
I am not one of those people with passionate feelings towards either miracle whip or mayonnaise but I have a brother who brings it up at every family pot luck. To me, they are just vehicles for other flavors. And I thought this was a winner.
Another good use for peaches is a dessert my neighbor introduced me to: you make a crust out of nilla wafers and butter. Then you pack as many peaches as you can into a half pint of whipped, sweetened cream, spread it over the crust and call it Peach Yum.

  4. This was delicious! I used mayo, as it’s what I had and prefer. I loved the sweet and spicy combo. I made it for myself for lunch one day, and had to make it again the next for everyone elsed. My teen and husband liked it. I didn’t even bother with the little ones, who have issues with sandwiches and green things, but they ate peaches and bacon (and eggs).

  5. I knew this was you Sarah before I even got to the end. This sounds like a meal that a pregnant lady would come up with. I’m not sure I can even give this one a try. Love ya, though.

  6. I got off work early today. So I took myself to lunch. The day was fine. It was a very lackluster sandwich. I wish I had this one instead.

  7. Ummm. . . dislike Miracle Whip, love peaches, love bacon, but just can’t wrap my head around the combo. I think I’ll stick with the BLT followed by peaches and cream (real cream!) for dessert.

  8. I use both mayo and Miracle Whip and always have both in my fridge. Some things (like hamburgers and ham sandwiches) have to have mayo, while others (like deviled eggs and roast beef sandwiches) have to have Miracle Whip. Thanks for the variety of recipes with both!

  9. I think bacon and peaches sound fine together. But you lost me at Miracle Whip… I just don’t like that stuff. Mayo girl all the way! You could always serve “picky eaters” bacon sandwiches with peaches on the side.

  10. Really like the combination of savory and sweet! I’m always looking for new sandwich ideas for lunch since there’s only so many turkey sandwiches my husband will eat.

  11. I would have never thought about pairing peaches and bacon, but now you’ve got my mouth going and my brain going and I can’t wait to try it. Yum!!

  12. At first I read the title and was all like, “What?!?!” But, after reading through it, I’m totally willing to try it! I love spicy/sweet peach salsa, so a spicy peach BLT should be right up my alley 🙂

  13. I know I would try this, but I know a grand total of zero men that would give this a try.

    1. i was thinking the same thing! ( at least about my husband). I was picturing the face he would make if i served him this! i’m sure he’d like it if he was brave enough to try it, though…..

      1. What’s with all of these husbands?! Mine gobbled it up. Just hide the peaches and place the bacon front and center 😉
