This post is in partnership with Hulu, but recipes, printables, ideas, and opinions are completely our own.
I was in high school when The Powerpuff Girls started, so I was a little old to be their target demographic back then (or at least I thought I was…I look back and realize I was basically an infant.) But now my kids–12, 9, and 4–are the perfect age and, as they’ve been watching Blossom, Bubbles, and Buttercup on Hulu (because all classic episodes are now streaming only on Hulu), I’ve realized what an adorable show it is. Apparently I am (still) the target demographic. You know…the busytired mom demographic.
Whether they’re saving the world before bedtime or are just being sugar, spice, and everything nice, their adventures as well as their courage, humility, and kindness are such awesome examples for my daughter and my sons.
To celebrate, we made candy popcorn in Powerpuff Girls colors, plus printables you can put on color-coordinating popcorn boxes. This is what the printables look like–to get a high-resolution printable version, click here or on the picture and a full-size printable pdf will open.
To make the popcorn, you’re going to need 3 bags of microwave popcorn (or 18 cups of popcorn divided into 3 equal portions).
You’re also going to need 1/2 teaspoon of lemon-lime Kool-Aid, 1/2 teaspoon of cherry (or other red/pink) Kool-Aid, 1/2 teaspoon of Mixed Berry (or other blue) Kool-Aid. If you’d like, you can also use lime green, blue, and hot pink food coloring–I recommend it with the green and blue because the colors can get a little muddled.
You’re going to be making this in separate batches to keep the colors separate (it doesn’t take as much time as it sounds like, I promise), so for each flavor, you’re also going to need 1/2 cup sugar, 2 1/2 tablespoons of butter, 1/4 cup light Karo syrup, and 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda.
Preheat oven to 225 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with foil and spray with non-stick cooking spray, then set aside. Measure out each flavor and baking soda and set them aside.
Place 1 bag of popcorn in a large bowl and set aside.
Place the butter, corn syrup, and sugar in a small sauce pan and heat, stirring constantly, to boiling. Cook for 1 minute. If you start to smell anything caramel-y, remove from heat immediately. Stir in the first flavor/baking soda and stir to combine evenly. Pour over the popcorn in the bowl and toss quickly to coat the popcorn evenly. Transfer the popcorn to the prepared pan. You should be able to fit two batches onto one pan (three if you’re really feeling cheeky.)
Wash the bowl and pan immediately in hot water and then repeat twice with the remaining ingredients (each batch takes less than 10 minutes). Bake for 20 minutes in the preheated oven, stirring once. Remove from oven and allow to cool.
While the popcorn is baking, print out the popcorn box labels onto cardstock and cut them carefully just outside the dotted border.
Now…you can easily find these blue, pink, and green popcorn boxes at Party City (or, I imagine, other party supply stores). These are the tall boxes, but they also have a smaller box that would also be perfect.
This is super easy (my kind of craft.) Remove a bag…
and use a glue stick to apply glue all the way to the edges of each label.
Stick the label onto the bag, making sure you’re pressing all the way to the edges. And voilà ! Easy adorableness.
When the popcorn has cooled, scoop it into each bag. If you’re feeling brave, you can even mix the flavors.
It’s such an easy and fun treat for kids of all ages (kind of like The Powerpuff Girls.) Plan a fun night watching the classic series on Hulu this weekend! Hulu is THE streaming destination for the best of TV and a great selection of films. Thank you for your warning about washing your bowls and pan quickly. The sugar mixture is really sticky.
This is such a fun activity idea!

This is such a fun idea!
I’m of the belief that there is no “perfect” demographic for the Power Puff Girls. . . when they first came on the air, I was in college and absolutely loved the show.
Excited to hear they are streaming on Hulu. Between this and Handmaids Tale, I may have to renew my subscription!
