Red, White, and Blue Patriotic Strawberries

If you’re looking for a super quick and easy festive treat for a red, white, and blue celebration, look no further. These patriotic strawberries are simply dipped in a little white chocolate and then some blue sanding sugar for an easy red, white, and blue bite!

Ingredient Notes

  • White Chocolate – You can use Baker’s white chocolate, white chocolate chips, or almond bark. If using real white chocolate, you’ll need to add a little vegetable oil or shortening to make dipping easier. More on that below in the instructions. I suggest almond bark or candy melts for the easiest dipping.
  • Strawberries – Make sure your berries are dry or the chocolate won’t stick. Wash them well ahead of time, pat dry, and then let them air dry for a bit before dipping!
  • Sprinkles – Any kind of sprinkles will work here, but sanding sugar is the easiest. If you’re using a larger style sprinkle, instead of dipping, I suggest sprinkling a little on the wet chocolate.

How To Make Patriotic Strawberries

  1. Melt some white chocolate (either baking chocolate, or chocolate chips works fine) or almond bark.  If you’re using white chocolate, add 1/2 tsp vegetable oil or shortening to every 1/2 cup diced chocolate or chips to make dipping easier.
  2. Make sure your berries are dry and give them a dunk.
  3. Dip the wet chocolate in blue sanding sugar so the bottom tip is blue.
  4. Immediately place onto a parchment-lined baking sheet and place in fridge to set up. They don’t even have to look perfect to be cute!

Questions & Reviews

  1. I have the Layered Jell-O sitting in my fridge right now. My nine year old son opened the fridge this morning and said, “Wow look what Mom made! She’s the best mom ever.” He’s a big Jell-O fan and this colorful one made his day. Thanks for helping me be “the best mom ever”. Have a wonderful 4th of July.

  2. I am attempting to make these and it is not working. I follow the instructions exactly, but when I dip the white chocolate dipped strawberry into the blue sugar, the blue sugar pushes the white chocolate up and it bulges out. Do you have to let the white chocolate harden at all before dipping in the blue sugar?

    1. No, you don’t let it dry. Maybe you have a little too much white chocolate on there? I’d let excess drip off and then dip gently.

  3. This idea is in the June/July Family Fun magazine.
When you find recipes and share them from elsewhere, do you site the sources?
I was just looking at this today in the magazine and then saw it on your site.
Very fun and very simple and very patriotically sweet!

    1. Yep, we absolutely cite the source of the recipes when they come from other places. This idea apparently was featured in Family Fun magazine (although I haven’t seen it- I don’t get that magazine), but they certainly did not invent the idea. I’ve been making these since I was a little kid, so who knows where the original idea came from. Obviously no one knows, or Family fun would have posted the source as well! I’ve noticed that Family Fun publishes a lot of fun little crafts and food items that have been around forever and just aren’t “claimed” because I often see things there that I’ve been making my whole life and I know others have too.

  4. I made this for 4th of the July and it was sooooo good! I left some strawberries without the chocolate and the blue sprinkles, just in case my grandparents didnt want them. There was no more Red, White N’ blue. Someone asked where are all the blue ones? haha! Yummy!

  5. Oh man! I wish I’d seen this yesterday! Oh well, it’s something to look forward to next year. We did however make the fruit pizza and oh my…..I wish I had leftovers! It was amazing!

  6. I needed a quick idea for last-minute 4th of july BBQ and I knew right where to go…Thanks for the great ideas. I also made your patriotic mini-pies which were fantastic! (and I’m not really a dessert fan usually)

  7. Saw these on Family Fun too. Made them yesterday and they were so yummy and cute. I used almond bark (because it was cheaper) and blue sprinkles. Tasted delicious!

  8. What a cute idea! I made these very last minute this afternoon and they were a perfect way to end our 4th of July get together with friends.

  9. I just made these a little while ago. They came out perfect!! So easy and so patriotic (and semi-healthy!). I love your blog! Can’t wait to get your cookbook! Happy 4th of July!

  10. Simple. Brilliant. And I think I have everything I need to make them right this very second! Yay!

  11. I made these this weekend, but I used whipped cream…. YUMMMMM! So pretty:) Thanks ladies!

  12. These are so fun! I just got done making them and am so sad I didn’t come across your blog first. I didn’t add the oil and I had a problem with the chocolate being too thick (I’ll get it right next time). However, sometimes it is just about the effort! Happy 4th!

  13. I also saw these in the family fun magazine! Aren’t they adorable & delicious!!!

    Happy 4th!!!

  14. What a fabulous and easy idea! I just got back from the grocery store…unfortunately I spent $86 to get these ingredients and a few other things…ugh! But thank you very much – I will keep this one on hand for other times/occasions as they’re super cute!

  15. WooHoo!! I got OBB Love!!! hehe… I appreciate the mention! I just wanted to share cuz they were so dang cute! And I will be making these soon myself!!

  16. I just made these yesterday. I had a bit of a problem with the chocolate, but everyone loved them!

  17. Thanks, Sara! We just picked a bunch of strawberries so this will be perfect! And a happy fourth to you and Kate as well. I was thinking about how lucky we are in this country, even for something as small as a blog! There are some places where the government doesn’t allow online networking like this. We truly are blessed in small and mysterious ways each day. Have a great day (and don’t blow your fingers of with the sparklers)! 🙂

  18. So cute! My youngest’s birthday is July 2, and her cake this year had red, white, and blue flowers on them. I’ll remember this idea for next year’s cake!
