This easy cookie decorating method uses glace icing (chocolate ganache would work, too) to create adorably spooky cookies! Use homemade or store bought cookies.
baked sugar cookieshomemade or store bought, see notes for recipe link
1poundpowdered sugar about 3 3/4 cups
¼cup+ 2 tablespoons milk
¼cup+ 2 tablespoons light corn syrup
1teaspoonextract
Instructions
Make the glace icing: With a whisk, combine sugar and milk until smooth (no lumps!) Then stir in corn syrup and extract.
Divide your icing into bowls and add food coloring reach desired colors. Your background color will need to be "flooding consistency." Your spider web color will need a little extra powdered sugar to keep it just thicker than the flooding icing.
Flood your cookie with your base color.
Pipe a swirl of spider web color from the center of the cookie to the outer edge.
Use a toothpick to drag your icing, alternating lines from the center to the outer edge and from the outer edge back to the center to create a spider web design.
Let those cookies dry for a full 24 hours if you’re going to stack them, otherwise they can dry for only a few hours as long as you’re very careful not to bump them and dent the icing. It will be smooth and dry on top, but soft underneath. (Which is in my opinion, the yummiest way to eat them!)
Notes
If you'd like your cookies to be on a stick, like in the photos, you can insert a paper lollipop stick right into your dough before baking.
This same method should work with chocolate ganache as well!
