Creamy Apple Cider Slushy

Jump to Recipe

We love Italian Sodas, and we love Hawaiian style Shave Ice. This recipe is kind of a combination of both! We use our favorite Little Snowie Shave Ice Machine to get perfectly fluffy ice to make a slushy consistency, but you could skip that part and this would still be a fun and delicious drink/treat. You could also try putting some ice in a blender with a little apple cider to create a slush texture. This Creamy Apple Cider Slushy is creamy and fizzy and full of fall flavor. Try it out and let me know what you think!

Ingredients and Equipment Notes

One thing to know about this recipe is that as written, it includes ALL the things. But these are just options and you can pick and choose and still have it turn out great! For example, you could just do apple cider and soda water with a shot of caramel syrup over ice cream for a float situation. You could skip the creamer since the ice cream is creamy. You could do the caramel syrup but not the caramel sauce…it’s flexible!

creamy slush ingredients
  • Vanilla Ice Cream – Vanilla or Vanilla bean ice cream. Ice cream is a common ingredient served with Hawaiian style shave ice and creates a rich creamy texture when it melts in!
  • Apple Cider – We’re looking for fresh apple cider, not apple juice. It should be thick and murky looking. You can usually find it in the produce section during the fall months.
  • Caramel Flavor Syrup– this is they type of syrup you’d use in flavored coffee. Caramel is one of the flavors you can usually find in the coffee aisle of the grocery store. If not, try amazon or your local restaurant supply store.
  • Something Fizzy – you can use plain carbonated water here, or a mildly flavored option like Lacroix, or even a flavored apple soda like the one you’ll see pictured. They all work great!
  • Something Creamy– I like to use a caramel flavor coffee creamer, but you can experiment with any flavor of creamer that sounds good, or use half and half instead.
  • Caramel Topping/Syrup– this is different than the caramel coffee syrup, this would be a caramel topping, like you would drizzle over ice cream. In the coffee aisle of the grocery store you can often find the Torani caramel topping that comes in a squeeze bottle for this purpose. That’s what I use!
  • Shave Ice– I realize not everyone has an ice shaver! We have a Little Snowie and I’m constantly talking about it on social media because we love it so much. If you don’t have one and would like one, you can purchase them on Amazon and they make a great family gift! We use ours all the time for shave ice during the summer, and creating fun slushies like this is one way you can use them during the fall months as well. If you don’t have an ice shaver- you can make this drink without that part, or try putting some ice in a blender with a little apple cider to create a slush texture.

Instructions

  1. Start with a scoop of vanilla ice cream in a cup.
  2. Add shave ice about 3/4 the way full.
  3. Fill your cup half way with apple cider.
  4. Add a little shot of caramel syrup.
  5. Add your “something fizzy” till it’s almost full.
  6. Give it a shot of creamer.
  1. For a little something extra- finish off with a drizzle of caramel syrup. This part honestly isn’t totally necessary for flavor, but it does look super cool and adds a little something special! You can find handy caramel syrup with nice pour spouts in the coffee aisle, or regular ice cream syrup works great as well.

Questions & Reviews

  1. We made these tonight and I was so excited but my girls and I all said they was a weird coffee taste which we all hated. We think it was the creamer which I bought the same one you did but maybe we will try another creamer.

    1. Definitely use a creamer that you like the flavor of! I’d try it before adding to your drink to be sure! The Chobani Caramel Macchiado has a slight coffee flavor so if you’re not a fan of that, try something a little more neutral 🙂 Hope you give it another shot, I think you’ll love it!
