Ingredient Notes

I like to think of 4 main categories of ingredients to use for the perfect yogurt bowl parfait. Pick a couple options from each category and you’ll be golden!

  • Yogurt – The biggest factor in an elevated parfait bowl is the actual yogurt. I like to use something a little more high end than our normal breakfast yogurt. Greek yogurt is easily accessible in the grocery store, but also take a look for Islandic or French yogurts which tend to be extra luxurious. I also generally spring for full fat yogurt when making a fancy bowl like this. I prefer a neutral flavor like vanilla or honey. Some of our favorite grocery store brands are The Greek Gods Brand Honey Greek Yogurt and Noosa Vanilla or Honey. Great yogurt makes a huge difference.
  • Fresh Fruit – Berries are an obvious choice and hold up well to toppings. It’s also fun to have some added texture and flavors like sliced banana, mango, pineapple or apple. Stone fruits are also a delicious addition, like peaches and cherries.
  • Crunchy Toppers – Some of our favorites are delicious and also have added health benefits. Granola, coconut chips, hemp hearts, pumpkin seeds, chia seeds and toasted nuts. When it comes to granola, there are so many great options now. I love Purely Elizabeth brand, and Private Selection (Kroger brand) has a few that taste like actual crumbled cookies. I love the ones with chocolate chunks for a little added indulgence. The quality of the granola makes a huge difference.
  • Drizzles – Drizzles are the icing on top, the finishing touch. We love a natural nut butter (I recommend always choosing a natural style because they actually drizzle) like peanut, almond, or macadamia. Honey, maple syrup, or agave syrup are great for a little sweet touch. You could even do a berry syrup for a fun fruit twist.

Instructions

This recipe can be made parfait style where you stack yogurt with the toppings, usually in a jar- or bowl style, where you start with a bowl of yogurt and you plate the ingredients around and on top of it (my favorite).

  1. I like to start with yogurt in my bowl first and then add the fresh fruit next.
  2. Next, top with the crunchy additions like granola.
  3. Lastly, drizzle on your finishing “sauce”

Serving Suggestions

These yogurt parfait bowls are a meal in themselves. Packed with fiber, protein, and fats, they have great staying power! If you’re doing a breakfast or brunch event, it’s fun to put everything out and let people build their own. If you want to bulk up the meal, you could even serve some egg squares or breakfast sandwiches on the side. Or perhaps with a quiche or a baked good, like scones or banana bread.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Can I make this ahead of time? Yogurt parfaits are a fun thing to make for a crowd, but assembling them too far in advance means the granola can get soggy. An easier solution is to have everything ready and prepared so you can assemble them quickly when it’s time to serve.

Questions & Reviews

  1. I love yogurt parfaits! I hadn’t thought of drizzles before, I’m excited to try them. Do you heat up your peanut butter or thin it somehow so it drizzles better?

    1. I recommend using a natural style peanut butter because they usually drizzle on their own. If yours is more solid, you can definitely warm it up- if it doesn’t feel weird to put warm pb on a cold parfait!
