Baked Cinnamon Chips

Jump to Recipe

Quick and easy Baked Cinnamon Chips are made by brushing flour tortillas with melted butter, sprinkling with cinnamon-sugar, and baking until light and crisp. They make a delicious snack on their own, or try topping them with some vanilla ice cream and buttermilk caramel sauce or hot fudge. They are also delicious dipped in fruit dip or straight into whipped cream. Two of our favorite uses are to build a plate of decadent Strawberry-Chocolate Nachos or dip in Fruit Salsa!

How to Make Baked Cinnamon Chips:

Simply lay out your tortillas and brush each one with melted butter and sprinkle with a little cinnamon-sugar and then cut into wedges.  I’ve provided measurements and quantities in the recipe, but you can absolutely eyeball literally everything here. I never measure anything when I make these.  Simply brush and sprinkle!

Lay them on a baking sheet (I line mine with parchment or foil for easy clean up) and then bake them in the oven.  Different brands and sizes of tortillas might take varying amounts of time but it’s usually about 10 minutes or so.  Just keep an eye on them and take them out when they turn golden on the edges.

When they’re done and cooled completely they’ll be light and crisp and oh so delicious. These are yummy, addicting little things. You can use them for all kinds of things- try making nachos by topping them with some vanilla ice cream and buttermilk caramel sauce or hot fudge. Or dip them in fruit dip or straight into whipped cream. Or just snack on them plain- they make a great after school snack. My toddler loves making these with me!

Questions & Reviews

  1. I can make this recipe into 2 ingrediants for you. 🙂 There is a land o’ lakes butter on the market that already has the cinnamon sugar in it and all you would have to do is spread it on the tortillas 🙂 Can’t wait to try this

  2. Can’t wait to get our new stove so we can make some of those. Can you make them on an outdoor grill? I’m sure you can make almost anything on a grill these days. Lol

  3. Have you tried using corn tortillas instead of flour? My boyfriend is gluten free… Just wondered if it would taste funny 🙂 Thanks!

    1. I personally don’t like these with corn- I think they’re too chewy. Fried on the other hand, would be yummy 🙂

  4. My grandmother and mom used to make these when we where little kids… they called them Bonuelos'(spelling) they where always a GREAT HIT! I’ve done the same with my children and now that they are all gown and when they come back to visit, they still ask me… Mom can you make use some Bonuelos’ and of course… I do! =D

  5. I made these chips yesterday for a snack while my husband and I watched a movie. Totally loved them!!! And love how easy they are. We ate them all before our two year old boys could try any so I made some more this evening. This will definitely be a regular snack in our house! I’m going to try the Strawberry and Chocolate Nachos next!

  6. These chips are super delish and a huge hit among a crowd! Be very careful when baking them, though. They really only take about 8 minutes and don’t use a “jelly roll pan” Use a regular cookie sheet or a stone. I (unfortunately) had to toss an entire pan out tonight because they were too burned to serve to my coworkers tomorrow. But…still super yummy nonetheless!!!

  7. YES, tell you brother we love 3 ingredient recipes!! Making this for Halloween party tomorrow.

  8. Love this idea but was wondering anyone’s thought on using Corn Tortillas as I’m Gluten Intolerant. ANYONE TRIED IT WITH CORN TORTILLAS?

  9. I keep reading all of your yummy fall recipes and I’m so disappointed that fall has not hit Vegas yet… then I came across this recipe. Now I’m thankful it’s still summer 🙂

  10. I am actually one that sees a recipe with more than 5 ingredients and think, ‘Do I really need to make this or is there a simpler version?’ I have 5 kids and a really picky husband. The less ingredients the better chance for them to like it. Your brother is so wrong!! I love 3 ingredient recipes.

  11. These are deliciously addicting! I live in an apartment with three military men and it’s hard to find a snack they all agree on. This was quick, easy and I can put them in a ziplock bag and let them feast on the go!

  12. Would these be good if they are made ahead? How long do you think they would keep and stay fresh?

  13. Just wanted to say that your brother is wrong. Wrongitty wrong. Wrong a long a ding dong. Three ingredient (or less) recipes save the day OFTEN around here!

  14. You know, we used to do something similar with pita chips, and they were awesome but a bit of a pain. First you have to split the two layers in half without them tearing apart, and then they soak up the butter, making it hard to spread on. This sounds like a much better idea! (and lower calorie, bread wise)

  15. Just tried these using corn tortillas and they were a pretty chewy….any suggestions? Maybe they only really work with flour?

    1. I know this is couple years late but i used rice torillas as gluten free and they were soooo good!

  16. I just started following your blog a few weeks ago and I love it! I just made the cinnamon chips and can’t believe how good they are! I actually put butter and cinnamon sugar on both sides, because let’s face it you can never go wrong with more! 🙂

  17. If using uncooked tortillas, would I cook them first or just go straight to the butter?

    1. You know, I’ve never done them with fresh tortillas so I’m really not sure. I’d actually try it both ways and see what works best (and then let me know! lol)

  18. Just wondering if you could use corn tortillas with this recipe? I have Celiac Disease and so am gluten intollerant. These little guys along with the fruit salsa sound really good!

    1. Sorry, just saw the earlier post asking the same thing… never mind, I’ll take a crack at it w/the corn. Thanks! 🙂

  19. Made this using whole grain tortillas and brushed with coconut oil. It was SUPER DELICIOUS! My kids loved it and I felt good giving it to them!

  20. Hey Drew, you must not have to make three meals and two snacks every day for a hungry family! I love to see three ingredients once in a while! 🙂 Thanks for the yummy recipe!

  21. We made these at our home summer camp with my girls' friends. Each kid got a tortilla shell and melted butter. Then I let them chose an extract to mix in with the butter before spreading on the tortilla. They turned out fantastic with coconut extract by far being the best. Thanks so much!

  22. Chaviva- I've never tried corn before with this recipe, but I know you can definitely bake your own corn chips so I assume it would work. If you could find or make gluten free pitas those would work really well too.

  23. Wondering: Could you use CORN tortillas? If you're gluten free? Or is there something else you'd recommend?

  24. Totally back you up on the three ingredient or less thing. We live in Antigua in the Caribbean and need lots of portable food for the beach. This one is great! Any ideas on calzone?
